Short course desription:
A 5 day expanded workshop on site-specific artistic interventions led by London-based artist and curator Paulina Pukyte.
The workshop will look into artistic interventions in public spaces in relation to monuments and commemoration through the paradigm of presence and absence.
Objective: to reflect critically on existing forms of commemoration as well as the presence and absence (erection and removal) of monuments today and in the past; to look into and discuss various potential new forms and strategies of public art as contemporary commemoration; to look into and discuss the possibilities of recharging and re-contextualising existing ideologically/politically controversial monuments by artistic interventions; to reflect on ethical and other implications and controversies around such interventions – existing and potential.
The outcome of the workshop is expected to be development of ideas for artistic interventions in public spaces of students’ choice – either in Vilnius or in any other city or country, in relation to monuments and commemoration (past, present orfuture).
