Course description
To rethink the notion of “activity” in artistic practices and artworks, conversations and develop new knowledge being able to see the artistic practice anew.
The main objective of the course is to create a critical awareness and discussion around the notion of passivity in art. We will discuss laziness, non-doing and withdrawal and furthermore reflect on the incitement and reception of artworks by looking at both art historical and contemporary examples, as well as different theoretical tools.
“When conceptual artists dismissed the production line when making an artwork, the contemporary artist puts the spectator in a situation of passivity where nothing is going to happen and how that can make a change."
The learning outcome is to rethink the artistic processes and develop new knowledge being able to see the artistic practice anew.
Course contains lectures and workshops. Active participation is important. At the end of the course there will be an event or exhibition.
